Ferozepur: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said Punjab party chief Amarinder Singh would be the Chief Minister of the state if the Congress was voted to power in the January 30 assembly election.
"Amarinder will become the Chief Minister if the Congress is voted to power by your (electorate) support," he told an election rally here.
The Congress leader alleged due to erroneous policies of the SAD-BJP government, the economy of the state was in ruins.
Drug addiction and unemployment were major problems plaguing the state, he said.
A massive drive to check drug addiction, which had spread its tentacles in the state, would be launched in the event of the Congress forming government in Punjab, Rahul said.
Accusing the Akalis of mismanaging the state, he said all those projects which the Congress-led UPA government wanted to bring for the welfare of people in the state were scuttled by them due to their vested interests.
"The Akali leaders tell you that Punjab is shining. But, they never meet common people, sit or eat with them," he said.
